CDM1550 LS+ - a dim view so to speak....

I have a GCN6114B control head on a CDM1550 LS+ that when compared to other CDM1550's I've seen the display text looks dim or is not as dark as the other radios. Its kind of like when your LCD watch has a low battery and the display goes dim which makes me think its something with the voltage level to the display portion of the head. You swap another head on the radio that came originally with this dim head and that display is ok so that leads me to think its not the radio that's at fault.

There was a post that was kind of similar to this for a person with a CDM1250 that went dim 30 mins after it was powered up but this happens right at power up and stays that way. The possible fix there was to replace a leaky electrolytic cap but upon looking at the board with a magnifying glass I can't see anything that is obviously bad with the board. Also everything else works fine on the head (buttons, power on/off, backlight, etc...). and you can see the display ok if you are looking right at it at the level of the radio. If you look at an angle the display gets washed out where on other similar radio displays you can still see the text. It appears that the affected display was making good contact with the circuit board, etc so I cannot see what else to check.

So the question I'd like to ask is does anyone know of a possible fix or what component(s) may be going bad on the head? I do not have a service manual or schematic to check things out further on this.

Thanks....
