Hi I’m trying to upgrade the Firmware of my ht1250 model AAH25KDH9AA6AN from software ver# R02.00.03 to R05.09.13 via radio firmware kit, I’m using a rib RLN4008B, a after market radio cable, and a home made HLN9742 as per batlabs information, I backed up my radio before I attempt to upgrade the firmware with the rib and after market cable and it worked ok so I know the rib and cable is good, but when I pressed program button in the radio firmware kit I get an error stating “flashing operation could not be started”. Has anyone had a problem with the batlabs HLN9742, or is the after market cable the problem, or is the firmware kit the problem, or “am I the problem”? any help will be appreciated.

I'm not sure how the Batlabs version is assembled, but the OEM unit has an A-OFF-B switch on its side. When the upgrade kit software tells you to put the radio in bootstrap mode, you should switch the HLN9742B to A position, remove the battery from the HT, wait a few seconds, then reinstall the battery. The radio should be in bootstrap mode when you reinstall the battery and you will not hear the normal powerup selftest double beep through the radio's speaker. If you hear the double beep, check your HLN9742 copy. If you do not hear the beeps, try reseating the accessory connector on the side of the radio and/or cleaning the accessory contacts.

I found that if you are using a rib that is not the new HLN4008E then you have to add parts to get the firmware updates to work. I think what happens is that the rib can't keep a ground on the bootstrap output so the radio goes out of bootstrap mode. I had this happen on the CDM's.

Also there is much newer firmware available then R05.09.13.

I ended up buying both ribless cables for mobiles and portables because you can flash at the faster rate and it doesn't 5or6 mins to complete the flash.

when you start the firmware upgrade, the program first reads the radio to get the model number so when it gives you that error message, something is not passing signal and if your rib and cable works then it must be your flash adaptor. and if i'm not mistaken the flash adaptor listed here on batlabs is not totally correct. when i took mine apart and compared it to the batlabs diagram i think it was upside down or there was something backwards and there was a jumper missing. but that was a while ago so i'm not shure. and there definately is newer firmware, 3 months ago i updated mine to 5.10.05 and i know there is newer than that now.

HLA is correct. You need to add a jumper from pin 1 to 7. When using the RIB to upgrade the flash, go at the slow speed (19.2 IIRC). The OEM RIBless cable is only $88.00. It is well worth the cost and is a lot better for flashing.
