Got an Astro Saber here on 800 That produces some strange audio after its volume is turned up past about 65%. It sounds perfectly fine below, but when I turn it up to make it louder it sounds like the radio is in a small room and it sounds like its feeding back into itself making a strange variant of microphone feedback. Behind the feedback you can still hear the voices on the talkgroup, however the voice sounds far far away as if it were traveling through a small pipe.

Anyone ever heard anything like this on a radio? It really is hard to describe

Many synthesized radios will do this. The speaker is vibrating the oscillator, which causes audio to go through the receiver and come out the speaker, which eventually would cascade and become a howl.

Either isolate the speaker in the case, don't let the volume go so high, or find what's overly sensitive in the VCO and prevent it from moving so easily. Sometimes they used silicone sealant or a dab of hot glue on the coil or surrounding components to keep them from vibrating. Make sure all gaskets are in place and all hardware is tight. Perhaps a piece of foam rubber, strategically placed against the speaker or VCO, will help.

That would make sense.

The radio has all the original hardware, I had just never seen this before. I'll see what I can do.
