HT1000 help

I have an HT1000 that could not hit a local repeater. All my others have no problem hitting the same repeater. It transmits great on direct. Before scrapping it for parts I thought I would give it one more try. Still nothing, so I decided to take the technical approach (banging on it while keying it up). While banging on it I managed to key up the repeater. At first I thought maybe someone else just happened to be keying up at the same time. I keyed up again without banging on it and it hit the repeater. I turned it off then on again and could not hit the repeater. I then banged it again and it keyed it up. What could possibly be loose inside that would cause this? I thought it had a bad PA but I'm not so sure now. Please help.

try not to bang it anymore... there must be a batlab member near you that will look at it... or a radio repair shop...

I think I'm just going to use it for parts. Thanks anyway.

Try the antenna connector for the first item, then the spring contact that touches the SMA connector, many are bent and do not make proper contact with that piece.

The next item is the RF switch on the side of the radio, if those sontacts are not engaged, you'll lose signal in both RX and TX.

Aside from a weak PA or bad solder connections on the board, there's not a lot that goes wrong.

The basic radio operations, from your explanation, are functioning, look at the physical connections for troubles and go from there.

Antenna connections are the first priority, then move on to other notable troubles.

Thanks for the info. This radio was given to me in a lot of 5. I purchased 4 on eBay and the guy sent me at first UHF instead of the VHF I had bought. I sent them back and when I received them again there were 5. So I guess I shouldn't be too worried about this one not working since I received it for free. I'm not a tech but know a little about these radios as I own 12 of them and an MT2000. I think I am just going to use it for parts. Thanks for all the help though.

Funny thing, I have the same problem on a UHF Ht1000 direct works great it recieves with no problem also. But any Repeater channels do not work. I also got it about a month ago from ebay.

Well glad to see now I have a starting point to double check the radio again.
