I'd be curious what I would need to do the upgrade - I'd keep the radio in the same band split (VHF), however, as I understand it, all I would need to do is upgrade the controler.
Anyone know what else I would need to do, or what cost would be associated with buying the controler?
The options I would be interested in would be QCII, MDC Encode/Decode...

Upgrading an MT2000 to MTS2000
Moderator: Queue Moderator
It was my understanding that the MT2000 could not be upgraded to an MTS2000 without a new controler...
How would you go about not getting a new controler for it? For some reason it just doesn't sound right...

It can be done, I've done it before using the labtool. The radio has to have the correct lower firmware or you risk toolproofing the radio.

How risky is doing something like this?
The only features that I am interested in are the advanced MDC signaling (like decode) and the QCII stuff. Other than that, as long as it works, i'm happy. My guess is I would have the find a VHF codepulg with the feature set I want...then just clone in the codeplug? Is there a trick to putting the MT into test mode or something to tell me what the version of the controler is?

You can get a new controller from Motorola
you will need the part # for a MTS2000 controller and they will also ask for the
flash code. If you do not have the flash code
they will not sell you a controller .I have bought a few new controllers for the MTS2000
and they have been costing me $336.00 each.
You can use the flash code from another MTS-
2000 of the same band also you will need to
have the Newest RSS to program it with

So I can pretty much make up a flashcode with the options I want, and read them that, and thats what I'll get?
I wouldn't be asking for much, I guess I'd have to look through the feature set and see what I could get.
No one around here would have one for sale? If so I might be interested.... Or the part number for the VHF controler...
