Hi all new to the forums.
Im having some trouble trying to program my motorola MCS2000. Firmware 5.3.
Ive had a look around but still none the wiser. This is whats happening.When ever I plug in the programming lead and turn on the rib box I get "FAIL 01/90" message on the display.
This only happens with the programming lead in when I unplug it.The radio works as normal.

Question is:
Whats happening, Why is this happening and whats the best way to fix it? Or should I be thinking about using it as a Expansive Paper wight???

If the RIB is not powered up it loads down the BUSS lines between the radio and the control head communications.

This is cracking me up.

I've just tried pluging in the programming lead with it not connected to the RIB box and I'm getting the "FAIL 01/90" message.
Would I get this message if the lead is faulty?

Sounds like a bad programming cable in my opinion. Try using the pinout on the batlabs site and ohm out that cable with a meter and find out whats wrong!

Ok I've just looked at the connections of the 25pin connector and this is what I can see. can someone that has made a cable please confirm that this is right.

Pin 1 from 25pin - Pin 4 on rj45
Pin 4 from 25pin - pin13 of the 25pin
Pin 12 from 25pin - pin 1 on rj45
A resistor bridging pin numbers 12 and 16 of the 25pin
Pin 16 from 25pin - Pin 3 of the rj45
Pin 14 from 25pin - Pin 7 of the rj45


I hope you can understand what I've just tried to explain. Not sure about the value of the resistor my meter is dead.

thanks for all your help. It was the programming cable that was giving the "FAIL 01/90"

the radios working great now. Just trying to get my head around the CPS software now.
