Hi all,
Just got a hold of some super clean P110's. While I've used just about every portable out there that M makes (minus the XTS series), how durable is the P110? I know the P110 is a Gp300 in a different case, and have read many posts about the GP300 having more channels, etc. but on the P110 specifically, how do you all like the radio in general? Will they take a beating and keep on ticking ? Any things I should be aware of on them (battery contacts, etc.). Are these good radios? They seem much bigger then the GP300, but are they as durable ?

I've probably owned close to a dozen P110s as well as the GP300 series.

They have always given excellent service with almost no troubles.

The ONLY problem area I have found, and this covers ALL of these same frame models, inluding the LTS and GTX, is the audio/mic socket.

The contacts are a bit on the frail side and don't like being plugged and unplugged very often before they become intermittent.

Without the dust covers on that socket assy, you will get a lot of dirt and debris ingress to foul up your day.

Aside from this, they are rock solid performers with a pretty hot front end as well.

As for the GP300 having more channels, no, the only big differences between the radios are height and the fact that the GP300 allows access to a third button, whereas the P110, does not.

I'd love to have a couple of either models t be honest...far superior to ANY Visar, hands down!

Does the P110 do MDC1200 like the GP300 ?

Believe the MDC-1200 as well as scan was limited to GP300 16 and 8+2 channel models. However if you have one of those P110's or GP300's that are convertible to 16 you will get the MDC and scan after conversion.

mic jack and battery contacts are about the only problems you'll ever have.

These radios were pretty hard to kill. As other have said the weak points are the battery contacts and the speaker mic conection. Be careful in these two areas and these radios will last forever. These are great radios for rental fleets and loaners. They seem to hold up through almost anything. I personally happen to drop one off the roof of a three story building one day. The radio landed on concrete. I picked it up and except for a crack in the case it was still in perfect working condition. It is probably still working for someone today.
