If the station is to be wireline controlled, and if you will be using the "tone remote control" system over the wireline, you have to tell the radio what to do when it receives TRC tones.
In its simplest incarnation, 40 ms of the tone 1950 Hz, preceeded by 140 msec of the High Level Guard Tone (2175) and followed by the Low Level Guard Tone for as long the PTT is held down on the remote will cause the station to key up on Channel 1 and stay keyed for as long as the LLGT is received.
Some applications use TRC "function tones" to do such things as change channels, activate "gated" PLs, and other things.
If you are going to get involved in installing, programming and maintaining Quantars, you really should get your hands on the Quantar Maintenance Manual and the Quantar RSS Programming Manual. Both are much better done that the average manual that comes with a radio these days. The RSS manual will explain all of the possible applications of TRC FTs for radio control.
