I have an email in to big /\/\ but I don't really expect a quick reply...

Does anyone know offhand about how much they want to provide & license the RSS for the HT750/1250/1550 etc. series portables?

Can anyone recommend (for or against) any particular RIB/cable combination for these units?

My only contribution is to strongly urge OEM Motorola equipment for the RIB and the RIB-to-Radio cable.

i agree, oem will always work but i've also had good luck aftermarket and homemade too. i guess the place to start with is how is your budget? then next thing i would concider is if you plan to work with other radios? if so you will be best off with a rib box, the individual cables to work with a rib box are cheaper in the long run. but if you are just working with one radio you can get by with a ribless cable.

Before buying any hardware I'd work on the CPS issue from Motorola.
A license for CPS is much harder to obtain than RSS. The radios you mention are covered under a CPS agreement.

Unless you have a fleet of radios, its going to be difficult for you to get the pro series CPS. NECS, Utilility Communications and one other has that entire state locked up. Unlike the ASTRO stuff, Moto has been very anal about the Pro Series and will tell you to go visit one of the MSS's. Apparently they got tired of "Customers" using the "Customer" Programming Software and bricking the radio.

I think it was around $300. I can't recall for sure since it wasn't my money.

I had to sign a restricted license agreement on behalf of the dept. They wanted a list of several of the serial numbers of the radios we would be supporting with it too. We got approved easily enough but it wasn't what I would call an easy process. I would assume that had I been a single user I probably would have been denied. But, it's worth a try.
