Hello All. I have an MSF5000 repeater (programmable type) which I need to add an external input into, to make a crossband repeater. Can I use a maxtrac low band as the input? What is the pinning scheme?

thanks!

Assuming that your CXB MSF is equipped with wireline and that the wireline is not in use, you can easily interface the station to a linked transceiver. If the Maxtrac has the 16 pin accessory connector - so much the better. You will just need one cable from the MSF to the Maxtrac.

CXB model MSF's have an accessory connector on the side of the station. There is a programmable output on this connector that can be set up to provide a receiver activity indication. Connect that to the PTT input of the link transceiver. That will cause it to transmit based on whatever receiver qualifiers are programmed in the MSF's station personality.

There is also a programmable input pin on the accessory connector that can be set up as a LINE PTT input. Connect that to the COR output from the Maxtrac's accessory connector. This will key the MSF when the Maxtrac is receiving. You can prioritize MSF in cabinet repeat or link audio based on the MSF PTT priority settings as desired.

Combine those connections with a ground wire common connection. The 600 ohm transmit and receive audio from the MSF's four wire interface should be connected to the appropriate receive and mic audio on the Maxtrac.

Once you have that cable made - the rest is all programming.
