I am looking for a Hand held antenna for a portable i bought but its like a reveresed SMA .. I have a few scanners and usually they work with a SMA antenna but they are a female where the thread screw is on the radio but this portable which is UHF or 70cm the antenna has to have the threads. Anyone suggest what antenna i should be looking for without using an adapter? I have the adapter so i know its a SMA thread and on the radio it has the hole and the fine little pin.. I was looking to get a better antenna for the radio, i was thinking of a Motorola any thoughts or suggestions?

The Vertex line of pro handheld radios have the female SMA connector. Also some of the later ham portables by Yeasu have the same connector.

The SMA antenna connector on Motorola portable radios is
a male, which is different from the way most other portable
radios are made. The best and safest way to put the right
antenna on the radio is to make certain the antenna is made
by Motorola. We have had information that aftermarket units
are definitely inferior both in performance and the way the
connector mates with the radio. Unfortunately there are a
lot of aftermarket antennas being sold that have the word
"Motorola" on them but the trademark is a plain "M" instead
of the Motorola style trademark, so you have to be careful.
The real thing usually costs a couple of bucks more than the
fake. You can also search this site using the Search function
for a ton of additional data (SMA, antennas, etc. etc.)

Its a no name radio on eBay so i can't give you a model number.. Its not the female SMA connector, thats the normal.. The antenna must be male as the radio is female.. Sorry maybe i wasn't clear on that point

I think this may do it if i knew if it was the same size as a SMA ?
