My local police department just started to have a beeping noise come over the airways when they transmit. It started yesterday, and we got a lot of freezing rain in the other night. Any ideas of what could be wrong?

well, just an idea, but I am aTelecommunicator for a police/fire department and when out PDs repeater goes onto battery backup (due to power outage or whatever) we get a beep at the beginning, during, and end of every transmission. I can't recall the length between the beeps at the moment.

Just a possibility, but i am by far no expert on the matter

Our repeater beeps like that when there is a lot of reflected RF power. If there is alot of Ice on the antenna then it might be reflecting the RF power and making the repeater give the warning across the air. Just a thought

Several models of Motorola repeaters emit a double-beep which can indicate a Power Amplifier failure.

Yes, most models of Motorola repeaters can be made to emit a tone, or a series of tones, to alert users of a problem, or potential problem. Bottom line is a tech should be called in to determine the nature of your issue.

Todd is correct here... and what tone means what would depend on how the station/repeater is programmed. You need at least the Alert programming info...
