My programming PC seems like it's getting ready to kick the bucket. Rather than sinking money into a really slow computer, I'm wondering if the following versions of RSS have fixed the 'timing loop bug' and will now run on my desktop machine (dual 1.4 GHz Athlons). (I know, I need real DOS. This isn't an issue.)

I use:
- GP300/350 RSS, R08.02.00
- ASTRO Portable RSS, R09.05.00
- Saber RSS, R07.01.00

Will all 3 of these work on a modern PC, or should I work on fixing up the old computer?

I would fix up the old computer.


The chance of running Saber RSS on a 1.4GHz computer is like a snowball's chance in hell.

As for the ASTRO Portable RSS, get ASTRO CPS. That would run just fine on newer stuff.

A lot of the later versions are just fine.

ASTRO RSS runs fine on newer machines. In fact, it really, really sucks on old machines, so by under no circumstances would I recommend it. Changing the RX signal type on conventional personalities or verifying a codeplug takes a couple of minutes on my 150MHz Gateway, whereas it only takes a few seconds on my 2.4GHz machine.

I run Saber RSS R07.01.00 on a Pentium 4 2.4GHz machine, with no problems.
