OK could someone please explain what the astro modem is used for. I just recieved four astro tac recievers and a astrotac 3000. will the recievers work with the modems in the asto mode over a standard 300-3000 HZ phone line? do the phone lines need to be fourwire or will two wire work? tell me that these arent like like the old dvp modem nightmares. is there a good resorce as to how the wireline side should be confiqured? ....confused in Boston

The Astro modems allow two components in an Astro system [e.g. Quantar, DIU, voter, receiver] to be located remotely from each other.
The Astro modems connect to each other over four wire full duplex analog voice circuits.
You should have whoever sold the system acquire for you a copy of the AstroTac system planner and if possible the "Astro Conventional Systems" planner. These documents will explain the exact function of each system component, which interfaces to use for each application, etc. The planner will also list the minimum specifications for leased line that are used with the Astro modems.
The receivers, voter, and modems can be configured for digital [P25] only operation or for mixed mode, as desired.
