Opening a Saber Battery?

Has anyone ever tried to open the plastic on a Saber battery? I'm assuming it's just a series of battery cells inside. One of mine is basically dead, and I'm wondering if it wouldn't be cheaper to try to replace it innards, rather than tossing it and buying a new one.

Can the things ever be opened?

Difficult, if not impossible, to do without wrecking the
case. The case was just not designed to be serviced.
And, for whatever reason, no one has ever made an
alkaline cell case for the Sabers. Wish they would.
Plenty of room for six AA cells.

its not that hard to open the battery .... i use a vice and a hammer .. the bottom of the case will pop off . put the battery i a vice sideways and tighitn it down .. untill the bottom pops .. or use the hammer to pound around the bottom of the battery to crack the plastic weld and use a screwdriver to pry it apart ... and depending if it is a motorola battery or other , the pack will almost drop out with a little help ,

the battery cells are welded toghter .., the biggest problem i had was making the bottom of the case stay toghter .

Considering how cheap a quality aftermarket replacement is from Multiplier etc, why bother?
