3K M3 will not transmit XL - only OFB

I have a dual mode UCM in a 3K (UCM ver. 3.53)
UCM Algo is DES-XL / OFB

R05.60.00
DSPN06.05.02
KG-1 DES-OFB
KG-2 DES-XL
599108-1C5E00-X

Ok, the problem is the 3K will only TX OFB in IMBE. The CPS is set up properly for XL TX default in the 2 fields.

Now when an AS1 with XL only transmits to the 3K, then the 3K reverts to XL and communications are possable. So basically the only way the 3K will TX XL is when an other radio transmits XL FIRST to it.

I've dumped a M1 non-whore without multikey
Tried a M2 whore & non whore with multikey
No matter what, the radio defaults to OFB reguardless how the CPS is programmed. The radio transmits XL fine in analog.

My thinking is that the firmware/dsp is causing this problem....

Any ideas guys :-?

For starters, that DSP/HOST is really old

But, I am also pretty sure that DES-OFB is just for digital, and DES-XL for analog, even though technically it should work with IMBE as well.

Yeah, My feeling is that the firmware is to blame - UCM 3.xx is designed to work with HOST 7.xx

I have been using a EMC 2.xx module with HOST 7.25 (kinda the reverse of your situation) and its very buggy and troublesome.

Thanks to all for responding :D

I had the feeling that the host was the problem.

I forgot to mention that it takes like 20 tries to load a single key - fails 95% So loading 4 keys is a real pain.

I've been using CPS ver 4 on this 3K. I wonder if ver 5 might correct this? (doubtful) I've hesitated to upgrade to 5 cause 4 never gave me any problems yet.

More experimenting to do. :)

Well, the codeplug maps for those versions are probably going to be identical - if not very close to each other. I don't know the differences between what you get in version 5 vs 4.

The same bits still map to the same location in code plug memory. IF anything - you may want to try an older version of RSS - around when that HOST/DSP was current - as that would probably yield the results you are looking for. Maybe there was a subtile enough change that would have effected this for different software releases....

Hopefully the above makes sense.

It sure does - thanks :)

Tried CPS 5, and what a POS. /\/\otorola should be ashamed for releasing this version. Back to CPS 4 now

Especially when you muck your login password up by one character and it drops your keys for you! :D

Could be the firmware. OFB will only work speaking IMBE. Of course, you can you -XL in digital or analog.

I had this problem before, and it goes back to the secure settings and with some radios I believe CKR management had something to do with it.

Do a search of CKR and the thread should be there. I think doug or Wavetar gave a quick tutorial about it.

I read that article a while ago, but will read it again and see if I missed anything.

I've tried everything I can possable think of - CKR on/off, Key Indexing, strapping, not strapping, migrate from securenet, bla bla bla. Shut off all XL just to see if a bit flip (programmer error, i.e. bug) was the culprit. Nothing. Gonna try one more thing, then it's firmware upgrade time...

Hitower, how did you get on with this?

In a nutshell, the firmware is old, while the UCM is too new for the firmware.

The firmware is not switching between OFB and XL. OFB is the first cypher in the UCM and defaults to it reguardless what is programmed.

Strangely enough, even tho I'm in sorta stuck in OFB for TX, when XL is transmitted to this radio, it switches to XL (TX & RX) for the rest of the conservation.

Yep - I know - the 3rd post from the top already expresses my thoughts.

I was more interested as to what corrective action was taken....

Just going to bump the firmware when I get the chance. :D
