The dreaded 254.1 PL Tone. . .

Does anyone know if a M100/M126 will take a 254.1 PL tone?

Further more... Which of the mobiles DO and DON'T take this tone? I've tried a Maxtrac before that would not. One of my local system takes this tones and kinda puts a hinderance on what radios I can buy.

So far most Kenwoods are out while, most of the Vertex models take it.

As for Motorolas, I know that the Maratracs, M1225s, GM300s, and CM300s are all good to go. Besides brand new top of the line radios, what's some of the older stuff (think - used market) radios that would work?

Sorry I can't help with your exact question, but had some input.

We have found PL tones above about 225 Hz to start to have a low level buzz on the receiving radio. I assume it is a function of the high pass filter.

If it a new system, you want want to keep the tone a bit lower.

I am guessing this is an existing system, so I will let others try to answer your question.

It's not my system. I do not have control over it. The buzzing and star wars sounds are VERY annoying.

Aw, another Motorola gotcha from long ago. This is a non-standard tone like one or two others therefore for years we would not support non-standard tones. We do support 254.1 but you have to enter the value since it is not in the pull-down.

Enter the value directly and it works on Kenwood radios.

The filters leak somethimes on this tone but also on Motorola.

I'm not familiar with you, I guess... Who is "we"?

Which Kenwood radios will allow typing it in? I'm trying on a Kenwood 370G and it's not letting me type it in. It beeps and kicks it out.

I am checking if that series of radio is capable.

Kenwood Windows software allows PL tones to be input in .1 increments anywhere from 67.0 through 254.1 so any non standard tone will work.
