I have installed a CDM 1550LS remotely and it looks like even though the power switch is off the rear unit still draws 2.5 amps, and that runs the battery down after a couple of days. Short of installing a relay to shut off the power to the radio completly. Any suggestions????

that is astronomically high.
replace it with another CDM and see...you should be down in the dozen milliamps area when the unit is off (forgive me for forgetting the actual ma values)
you're sure it's sucking down 2.5 amp all the time its off? how are you checking?

Hi There! I am using a Fluke 83 on the 10 amp jacks RED & BLACK I remove the wire that goes to the rear half of the CDM and put the Fluke in between the battery and the hot wire to the trunk.
The thing that caught my attention was that all week long this vehicle stays in the garage, while I use another vehicle for work, and every week when I go to use the vehicle the battery is stone dead.
I know that even if the front control unit is not connected via the remote cable and the external speaker is pluged into the rear deck- the speaker will cherp when the power is applied to the rear deck meaning that the unit has fired up even though there is no control head connected.
The radio works just fine in every other way I use two of them on conventinal/LTR trunking. Thanks Vinnie66

ok, so the unit is constantly on then.
do you have the system set up for ignition sense? Do you have the Ignition sense lead connected to a switched battery source (like the business side of the starter solenoid)? Sounds to me like a botched install of the rear deck, or possibly a mistake made in the programming of the unit.
Sounds to me like right now like the radio deck is basically powering up with the 12v power source, and that is not what you want. You need to have whomever programmed the unit to go and check the ign sens line to see if he radio is set to ignore, or follow that line...this way when the vehicle shuts off, the radio deck knows to power down...that sounds like your issue.
