My manuals for the astro saber don't seem to indicate whether or not any of the later revisions of the astro saber VHF RF board will support 2.5khz RF channels...
anybody done any legwork on this issue?
current shipping version (at over $800) is NLD8892S (as in 19th revision! LMAO!!!)
on a side note - when did the 2.5khz RF board for Astro Spectra begin shipping?
i'm guessing around 2003, but i'm probably off a bit.

The AS1 I had with me last night does 2.5. I was listening to Houston DPS on 155.4675 on it. It's HOST/DSP7 and the build date from the serial number is January of 1997.

I would imagine that it was around the same time as the Astro Spectra 2.5 switch. My VHF Astro Saber is capable of 2.5 and it was old enough to actually be a VSLEP radio.

After swapping some PMs, what Doug is looking for is 6.25 kHz-spacing capability in a VHF AS. I didn't even know 6.25 was being used on VHF.. I thought it was all 7.5.

This is straight from a motorola publicatoin regarding 2.5 khz rf boards for the astro spectra:
"New radios will be referred to as 2.5kHz capable. Radios shipping within the U.S. will bear a unique marking, 2.5kHz printed on the radio identification label to the right of the FCC ID. Radios shipping outside the U.S. will not have the marking until 12/31/98 but will nevertheless be hardware capable as of 9/17/98. In addition to being hardware capable, radios must be using host firmware version R09.51.00 (This firmware is IMBE vocoder type only. VSELP radios cannot be upgraded to support 2.5kHz capability), or later version. To determine the firmware version of a radio, press the HOME button quickly five times soon after turn on. The display will show the word "SERVICE" followed by the host version number. Programming of new frequencies will require RSS version R06.50.00 or later. "

Oh ya, they are going nuts assigning 6.25khz VHF channels in my area. Most radios/scanners are not capable of tuning in these frequencies.
6.25Khz is also used in the 700Mhz band too!
Only scanner I know capable of 6.25 in the VHF/700 band is the BCD396T and BCD996T. Only /\/\ot radio I know of that can do this properly is the XTS5K/XTL's
