I have a Maxtrac VHF. When I first turn it on the audio is extremely low. It gets louder after a few receptions or I can just hold MON down and the audio rises. What would cause this. Its not that big of a deal but Im sure its not normal

ahh..... i was having the same problam with mine when it was running off a batery, the batery may be to small no good or it is simply not charged, my first suggestion would be to put the batery on a trickle charge overnight and see what happens..... if your using a power supply it may be eathe an extremly small one or its begining to deteriorate. let me know what happens.

I know this from personal experiance with my maxtrac it drove me nuts for hrs untill i put the radio on a good batery.

Replacing a cap will fix about 99% of that problem as well! The ones i have had with this problem had a leaky cap, C551, replace it with a 10uf 35v electrolytic and your done.

Open the radio, remove the bottom cover. Find the HLNxxxx number on the logic board, as there are four versions. Post that, and someone can give you additional guidance.
