With the user programmable scan list does each zone have a different scan list or does it stay the same no matter what zone you switch to?
Thanks

The scan lists are assigned to the personalities. A scan list stays with that personality regardless of which zone / channel position(s) it is assigned to.

Try this
Personality 1-16 scan list #1, and zone-1
Personality 17-32 scan list # 2 and zone-2
Personality 33-48 scan list #3 and zone-3
and so on.

a personality is a channel. your radio can do everything you are wanting it to do, you just have to set it up that way. you can only have one scan list assigned to a channel and then you can alter that scan list however you want. when you bring up the scan list you want to edit you can put whatever channels you want in it, it don't matter what zone they are from and then you can set whichever ones you want for your first and second prioritys. the only problem will be is if you have more than 16 channels per zone you won't be able to scan all of them.

While certainly true in the broad sense, there is also a bit of an over-simplification there that can cause some confusion when learning your way around the HT1550 and its Professional Series siblings.
A personality contains all of the information that defines a channel for the radio's user. This includes the displayed name, TX and RX frequencies and tones, signaling system, scan list, and phone list selections, etc. However a personality must be assigned to one or more zone / channel positions in order to be used.
If you create Conventional Personality 1 in the software, and then just program the codeplug into the radio, it will not work because it has not been assigned to a channel position within the radio's zone(s).
Additionally, you can assign the same personality to more than position. You can assign Conventional Personality 1 to every single channel position in the radio, if you had the desire.
