Many hardware ?s Regarding MTS2000 Programming

I have an MTS2000 that I programmed several times on the following computer:
90MHZ Pentium 1
16MB RAM
using COM2 since COM1 is dead

I am using a RIB, and cable from ixcessory.com
RSS version R06.07
Radio firmware version R06.27

just 10 minutes ago I tried to read the radio, and it gave a checksum error. Upon several retries it either gave a checksum error, or couldn't communicate with the radio at all. What would be the most likely causes of this, and what are the best/SAFEST methods to fix this? I am PARANOID about toolproofing this radio, and I do not have LAB, nor can I backup the S record. Thanks

new batteries in rib, make shure the battery on the radio is charged, use a pencil eraser on the side terminals, try other ribs and cables, open it up and check the flex ribbon to the housing. any of theese things could be the cause. 6.07 is the latest and should work fine, stay away from lab, you don't need it. you're not going to mess anything up just by reading the radio so try some of theese suggestions and let us know. one other thing, has anyone else messed with the radio and maybe programmed it with any version of cps? if so you can't use rss any more.

Actually isn't R6.08 the latest DOS RSS?

Yes. 6.07 will still read 6.08 radios though. Radios programmed with CPS up to 1.10 will work fine with RSS 6.07.

The only thing changed in 6.08, I believe, was a fix to stop people reviving inhibited radios by cloning in an uninhibited codeplug.
