CPS tutorial?

Is there anywhere I can find an overview on CPS? I'm somewhat familiar with RSS, and I just bought an MTS2000, and I'm going to be getting some programming software to program it with. I bought a ribless programming cable already; haven't recieved it yet. Will one version of CPS do all models of Motorola radios, or is it like RSS in that I would need one version for each model? Is there a CPS version that I could use to program older Saber I, II, and III's?

Whats versions of CPS will program a MTS-2000? Motorola P/N?

The correct CPS package for the MTS2000 is RVN4176 (currently RVN4176U- R02.20.0) That package will program the MTS2000, MTX8000, and MTX9000. There is also the RVN4177 CPS package, which also includes the CPS for the MCS2000 mobiles.

As you correctly guessed, like RSS, you need the appropriate CPS title for each family of radios. There is no such thing as a universal version.

There is no CPS package for the Sabers. There is only RSS. CPS packages are only available for newer radio families (and the newest are CPS only).

The change between CPS and RSS isn't really that bad. The basic concepts are fundamentally the same. Instead of a menu and page layout, it is now expandable tree and tabbed window format. The help files are usually pretty thorough. If you have learned your way around RSS the first couple of minutes staring at CPS may be a little bewildering until you start expanding and exploring things, after which things should start to fall into place pretty quickly.

Some people swear they will go to their graves clutching their 3.5" RSS floppies. Others, myself included, find CPS much easier and faster, once you know your way around. It all comes down to familiarity.

BTW- Don't feel too bad- I've seen posts with hundreds of views and no replies :)

Minor correction...the CPS is for the MTS2000 only. The MTX838/8000/9000/MT2000 still require the DOS RSS.

Hmm. When I looked at the RSS/CPS spreadsheet it only had the MT2000 marked as still requiring DOS RSS.

Unfortunately, I handed my new MTX9000 to another Admin before it ever even got near my computer :)

Yes, I see what you mean...the spreadsheet has a small '*' beside the MT2000, noting the DOS RSS is required, but yet does not have it next to the MTX stuff. Trust me, the CPS is MTS2000 only.
