I just won an auction at the epay site for an MCX1000 Digital radio (MBD43UXA7H00-K). What exactly is the difference between the analog and the digital MCX1000s?

Here is the radio I won.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Heck... If you had a question like that, all you had to do was ask me.

I'm the one who sold you the thing. There's really no such thing as a "digital" MCX1000, at least in terms of modulation schemes. The encryption option digitizes your audio, and modulates the radio with the resultant data stream, but that's as far as it goes.

The MCX1000 is an improved version of the MCX100. They're both analog radios. It's just that one (the 100) is programmed with a PROM, while the other (the 1000) is programmed with RSS, and has more channels and options available.

In terms of much of the innards, they're almost the same radio.

If you're after a true 'digital' capable radio, you want an Astro with the P25 option enabled. The kicker is that you'll need another P25-compatible radio to talk to it in that mode.

I bought it just because I thought it was good price for an MCX1000( which is one of my favorite rigs) not because it was digital. I was wondering if there was a difference from the analog type because I have an analog one that has the encryption board installed, I don't know if it works or not as I have not yet acquired a key-loader ( it is on my wish list ).

Regrettably not. I got lucky to find the one, and I didn't need it because I already had a Spectra Consolette waiting in the wings.

However, should I run across more of them, I'll see what I can do.
