Does the RSSI indication under Site Info on SmartZone radios correspond to a "real" unit of RF signal strength? If how, roughly how?

I doubt it. RSSI is almost unit-less. Sometimes it's a voltage, sometimes a digitized value. For example, GTX mobiles come out with 1.5 to 4.5 volts, while Spectra mobiles display it as a value between 30 and 110, roughly. It varies with each radio.

You could inject signals of known signal strengths and record the RSSI values and come up with a graph of the relationship, but there's nothing saying it will be the same on all radios. About all you can assume is that a higher value means a stronger signal. When the radio leaves the factory, the various RSSI values used with SmartZone are set according to specific signal strengths.

On my XTS 5000, i get a RSSI of 148 right under the tower.
