With all this talk about RSS, What about Military Radios, you know, the things that have knobs, you want xx.xxxMHz, you simply crank it in, Motorola has produced several very good examples, some go from 2 to 1000MHZ+, I have found very few people who work with the modern military radios.

That's probably because there aren't all that many of those expensive HF rigs out there in the civilian market in good working order, for one, and since they're HF units, they are used by a generally different type of radio enthusiast. They're cool radios, though, and I am trying to find an authentic "correct" model for a friend of mine who has a military surplus HMMWV (humvee) so he can install it (it doesn't have to work) for display purposes. Anybody know what models of radios are right for a military humvee?

Military radios for the Hummers (US ARMY) are mostly FM (25MHZ-90MHz)AN/GRC type radios. The HF and AM-UHF radios are mostly used in the Airforce Hummers. Or Army RATT Trucks (Hummer with a BOX on it) or 577 APCs. But remember (24V DC) is what they run on. The military has also been using the Singar tactical radios (VHF-UHF) preprogrammed at Company level. ALso the Bendix King radios, for the individual soldier.

Anything later than the VRC12 will look correct, the old MOTRAC military!, control head, looks very "right" in a humvee.

The most note worthy Moto green radios are probably the URC-1XX series, and the LST-5.
The former, URC-100,101,110 and 111 are either VHF low or high band + UHF satcom. These are big manpack with up to 20W. The LST-5x are used by special forces such as Seals or Rangers and usually comes with funny looking folding Yagis like in the movies. URC-1XX are readily available in the surplus market but the LST is impossible to find, most of them have embedded COMSEC (crypto equipment) and the military would rather burn and bury them than selling them as junk. In fact, the user manual actually states which incendiary hand grenade has to be use to destory the equipment.
