VFD vs LCD

Post by RailroadTech »

Ok I do not know if there has been any type of discussion about this but I wonder in the long term .... say 5 to 10 years if the new LCD control heads will hold up.

The VFD control heads W3, W4, W5/7 and W9 control head are and were very durable. Mind you the VFD tended to get weak over time.

I would say yes. MCS2000 displays are LCD - they've been around for quite awhile. Other manufacturers (like Kenwood) are all LCD, and have no longevity issues.

Overall, VFD is more complex and prone to failure than LCD.
