I have the programming software for my HT1250 radios and hooked up the EX600xls. It will read the 600, but when I try to write to the radio it gives me an error message software and radio versions don't match. Is there an upgrade I can get so I can write these radios?

Yes, you have to upgrade your version of CPS software. I believe it was version 6.01 & higher required to program the EX series.

If you have a valid and current subscription, you should be able to download the latest version from your Motorola Online account.

Otherwise, call Moto at 800.422.4210 and they'll hook you up.

It sounds like you are trying to put an HT1250 codeplug into an EX600. You cannot take a codeplug from one model radio and put it into another type or version. For example a codeplug for an HT1250 bandsplit upto 450 is not compatible with the higher bandsplit of 450-512. They're both 1250's, but the models are different. You would have to read your EX600 and copy the codeplug settings from the HT1250's codeplug. Hope this helps.

What you say is correct, but that isn't his problem. He reads his EX600, then when he tries to write the EX600 codeplug back into the radio, it gives an error. This means he was using a CPS version earlier than 6.01, which didn't work properly with the EX series.

I don't know if this violates the rules, but there is a way to change the registry so that a CPS code plug for the HT1250 will work for different versions of the HT1250's and the CPS program will work with different types of Motorola radios.

No, it doesn't violate the rules, but it wouldn't be as easy as messing with the registry. There is a CPS Region hack kicking around the forum that involves changing a registry entry, but you'd have to figure out where in the CPS program the error checking is for the model number information, and essentially remove that. Its not impossible, but it probably will take a bit of time on your part to figure it out.

More time... than just re-doing the codeplug.

We use a series of different radios at my company. We have HT750's, HT1250's, GP380's, gm160's, and CDM1250's. All are set up for VHF operation. There is a string in the registry that can be changed so that one instance of the CPS will program all these models. Although, you have to have the correct codeplug for the radios. It will not allow you to program a CDM1250 with an HT750 codeplug. If anyone thinks this will help them, let me know and I will post the directions here.
