Attempting to use various CPS/RSS tools when reading said XTS3K i'm having interesting results.

in DOS RSS

COM test results in the radio freezing - no matter what the radio was doing when you hit COM test, it freezes in that state and STAY'S that way.

Attempt just a plain read, the radio reboots, and I get the NO ACKED error

in CPS

Radio reboots into 1CSQ on a read attempt but the CPS reports it simply didn't get a response.


This laptops/rib/cable/setup works fine with other radios that use the same "jedi style" connector.

Any thoughts?

put the radio chassis in another housing and see if you can read it.

That'll be difficult.... But i'll see what I can do...

Could you read the radio before this or is it a new one? I have encountered this before and I did a re-seat of the cable on the radio and it fixed it. I have also had, just as Doug suggested, a bad housing flex. Something else to try, just for grins, restart the computer and try the CPS again. For some reason it can be quirky sometimes.

I've re-seated the flex, rebooted, tried different software, reseated cables, rebooted, powered down, charged up... Nadda.

It's been suggested my crappy PA-1 rib may to blame.

Just awaiting the chance to borrow someone elses...

When I first tried using my laptop (an IBM Thinkpad T23) for a programming machine, I had the same problem when trying to read Astro and Jedi radios. In my case, it turned out to be a system issue.. apparently Win98SE with "MS-DOS for Games with EMS & XMS support" doesn't cut it on those machines. Re-configuring it to dual-boot into DOS 6.22 and XP, and running RSS in 6.22 solved the problem. If you can, make a Win98SE boot floppy from one of Bootdisk.com's images, use that to boot the machine, then try running RSS and reading the radio. That was the first thing I did since I had a boot disc handy, and lo and behold, it worked.

If, however, everything worked before and it just all of a sudden started giving you problems, then I would also suspect the RIB. I had a PA-II go out on me once, so it's not unreasonable.

Well I took it over to someone with a REAL /\/\ RIB and it reads just dandy.

So it's gotta be this rib, but that stinks, it reads everything else.
