M1225 - mic socket pins joined??

I have recently acquired a VHF 20 channel M1225.
I noticed that 2 of the mic socket pins feed into the same "support slot" at the back of the mic socket!!
I have checked out the Batlabs mic socket info. Looking at the front of the radio, from left to right , the mic socket pins are defined as "8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1"
Basically, pin 2 goes into the same "support slot" located at the back of the mic socket as pin 3. The "support slot" for pin 2 is "empty".
Is there any reason for this other than a manufacturing error?
I checked out the pin details - pin 3 is "Hook" but according to my info , pin 2 is not used (n/c or PB2).
I looked at a Moto brochure which indicated that the "standard" mic (which I am not using) has an LED which is either green (RX) or red (TX).Maybe the pin2/3 linking is something to do with that? - but it seems an odd/poor quality way to make the connection!!
My M1225 was manufactured in 99/9/12. I want to use the "out of band" shift key trick to program the radio to 145MHz. Batlabs indicated that I will need to use RSS version 3.1. I think the later Version 4 does not allow the shift key to be used. Is a M1225 manufactured in 99/9/12 likely to have been programmed with version 3.1 or earlier? Does Version 3.2 allow the shift key trick?
Thanks
