one my lap top the RSS program works fine but when i put it in my computer it says
runtime error r6003
-integer divided by 0
what can this mean i am running win 98 can any one hel

your version of runtime, if you have it installed is not compatable with the rss. use the factory disk to install the rss and it will put the correct version of runtime in the machine. you probablly just copied the program from one computer to another but didn't install it.

Depending upon *which* RSS you're trying to run(whether it's an old version or the latest), generally a divide by 0 error means that
the machine you're trying to use is too fast(processor clock) or possibly you're trying to execute it in a non-DOS environment.

i updated java and every thing it still says the same thing i am using rss (R05.30.00)

Which radio model/series is the RSS for? What operating system are you trying to run it under? If I understood your first post correctly, you are trying to run it under Win98. This is a BIG no-no. RSS should be ran is DOS only. The "Shut down and restart in MS-DOS mode" selection doesn't cut it, either. You'll need to either install DOS, or boot from a DOS boot disk, and then load the RSS. If you need a DOS boot disk, check out bootdisk.com.

how do i use the bootdisk and use the cd with the rss on it at the same time ?

simplest form...

boot from DOS boot disk

take out disk

put in RSS disk

run RSS from A:\

is there any software out there that i can use windows xp to program a maxtrac. if so whats it called

All Maxtrac RSS is DOS-based. Windows xp is not dos-based, even
without the GUI running. Such RSS does not exist to my knowledge.

the rss needs to run on a fat32 system, everything over windows 2000 uses a ntfs file system. load dos from a floppy that is a fat32 then take out that disk and put in a disk with the rss on it and run the program from a floppy and you should be ok.

ok guys im in command prompt. my rss cd is in what do i type to open it. at first i thought you type d: to open it but it does nothing d:\ dose nothing how do i open it ???

You probably don't have drivers for the CD loaded. If you do, you should be told the drive letter when the driver initializes.

Out of curiosity, why is your RSS on a CD? Maxtrac RSS is distributed from Motorola on a floppy. If your copy were properly licensed, you should have these floppies.

Alternately, why don't you just copy the software from the CD to a floppy using another computer, then run it all from the floppy?

On top of that, you will most likely need a 386 era machine to properly run it. Maxtrac is DOS only, and can run in a DOS window in Win98se, but WILL NOT program from it.

Motorola found out rapidly that the runtime software didn't like the newer processors hence the rapid release of the CPS software. However, those radios that used the runtime that were not current didn't get CPS versions. Maxtrac and Spectra being some of them.

The uber technical reason for why old RSS with the RUNTIME.EXE executable based RSS, doesn't work most of the time is due to the way it does what is called "protected" mode execution... Its just not compatible with ANY Windows 9x, NT etc (Due to the fact that Windows already puts the computer INTO "protected" mode...). Sure it might run, but not properly... Like was stated ONLY REAL DOS will work.

The RSS is too old for that computer...'divide by zero integer' errors indicate that, as the older RSS used the processor for timing, and it's now too fast. It won't matter whether you're running in pure DOS, or a DOS window. You need a newer version of RSS with dual independent timers built into the software, and need to run it in DOS if you want to actually read/write the radio. If you're simply editing saved codeplugs, then you can run it in a window or command prompt.
