I'm pretty sure i know the answer but i just want to check quick, can a case from a Systems Saber be used on the Saber III?

For example, i have a really nice Sys Saber but in a crappy bandsplit and i have a Saber III of a good bandsplit but a crappy case, can i use the case from the Sys Saber to make the Saber III look nice? I realize the stickers and such are an issue since it would have the wrong model number, but i'm more worried about the electrical connections in the bottom of the case.

From what I was told, the systems is the same size as the secure saber. I never got around to trying it.

Are they both UHF? If so, why not take the modules out of the Saber and put them in the Systems Saber? That way, you'd have a lot more features, i.e. programmable buttons, more channels, etc.

It's easy to do and you wouldn't have to worry about having the wrong stickers on it as it would be a Systems Saber.

No, you can't. Two totally different radios.

Scott is correct, this would be the better option. If they are different bands (one VHF and one UHF), then you CAN change the housings. As you stated the labels would be wrong on the radio including the keypad labels.

I have replacement labels as well if I can find them, but if I were you, I'd want the extra features that the Systems Saber offers.

It's only a good idea if you can program the systems, not everyone can.

Any standard Saber can be placed in any version of the same radio, be it a I, II or III.

Same goes for the Systems models, the only oddity will be the keypad as you have none of the 'key' features of the sysems model on a Saber I,II or III.

Electrically, the entire analog Saber line is identical.

As for the Astro case....forget it, this model line is an entirely different critter and altogether different in both design, case and electrically.

On a side note, the same programming cable for the standard Sabers works with Systems Sabers, but NOT any of the Astro line...but it can be made to work with a DPDT switch installed to swap a single line so you would be able to use a single cable for all Saber models.

I have a new Saber SI case with six keys. It has the flex, base plate and battery contacts also. 4.4 inches tall. I was not able to find a part number anywhere on it.

It looks like an Astro Saber II - 6 buttons on the front with a display.

Scott is generally correct. The Astro case is longer and has different contacts.

The didplay window is larger just like the Astro and the buttons look the same as an ASII. The buttons are NOT in the same position as the Saber tho.

Does anyone have a pic? Nothing on Google. What was special about these radios?

I made a mistake and put a syssaber case on a saber and it worked normally, BTW.
