The US government has mandated that beginning in 2007, Daylight Savings Time (DST) will start three weeks earlier and extend one week later. The 2007 start and end dates are March 11th and November 4th. These changes affect the operating systems (OS) and some of the workstation and server applications in Motorola communications systems. To enable the system to accurately reflect the new DST time, the OS and some applications of workstations and servers will need to be modified.

Motorola has been working with its suppliers to identify and develop the modifications required for each system type. Detail requirements, FAQs, downloads, and ordering information for software updates can be found on the MOL Resource Center > Daylight Savings Time 2007 folder.

Motorola recommends that you complete the patch either prior to March 11, 2007 or after April 2, 2007. When patching your system, read through the FAQ document and software checklist. If you begin to patch your system, you must patch the entire system by March 11th for the patch to function correctly. If you choose not to upgrade your equipment prior to March 11, 2007, your system should continue to perform normally; however the system time will be off by one hour, and this time discrepancy may be noted in your time stamps and logging dates and other functions that are time-dependent.

Although Motorola is not responsible for the DST change mandated by the government or its effect on systems, Motorola is committed to providing our customers timely assistance through this process.

I wonder if this has to do with the "Energy Policy Act of 2005"?
and what else are we going to have to patch up?

This all may be sort of OT but here's what I've done after
reading the confusing Microsoft update pages. I signed on to
the NIST time standard site and run it in background all the
time. It sets my computer clock to the second and does DST
as well whenever I ask it to do so.

Here is the URL:

You choose your GMT offset and the program does automatic
setting of your machine as well as DST under the new start
and stop dates.

your system should continue to perform normally; however the system time will be off by one hour, and this time discrepancy may be noted in your time stamps and logging dates and other functions that are time-dependent.

At the end of the day it will still work.
my agency is more worried that the extra hour of daylight will fade the curtains and upset the cows.

We have been having to Go out and Reprogram are Smart (electric) meters for the time change Seeing how they are Time of Use/Time of Day Demand we have to get the on the right

Luckily we have a lot of Dumb meters and the over the AIR MCC will fix that

Doesn't the Centracom Elite just use the PC's time?

Depends on the version. Gold Elite under NT4 uses the clock in the CEB and drives the PC clock to match.

Windows 2000 and newer use the PC for time. The PC's themselves sync to the PDC [Primary Domain Controller] That either runs on the its own clock or can be sync'd to an external source [e.g. Netclock via NTP or SNTP]

We use our Trak9100 to supply time.
MOL just put about 20 patches up for all the SUN servers and so on and I think there was a centracom patch.

With regards to the time syncing on a local PC, there are patches that have to be applied to both the workstations and PDC. The time communication between the PDC and workstations is all in UTC and then offset by the timezone on the local PC. I work for a local government in Virginia and I wish we could have left well-enough alone. I've been working so much overtime to get our network and servers ready for this. Sucks the big one!
