"Per Personality" vs "Per Channel"

I'm messing with a VHF GP380 codeplug in the GP-Series CPS, and I notice that there are "Per Personality" and "Per Channel" screensin the CPS. You can apparently assign up to 64 channels to a "Personality". Is a personality in this case the same as a Zone? I'm told that these radios don't do zones, but this looks like it may work.
Thanks!

A personality simply tells each "channel" how to behave. Scan list, signalling and other non-frequency/pl/dpl information.
Say I want all 14 FRS channels to share the same scanlist, mute/unmute rules and have the same 5-tone ZVEI (GP380) signalling. Instead of specifying that on a channel level, I tell the radio to reference a single personality.
So Channels 1-14 look at Personality "X" for their behavior. It saves time in the long run if you've got multiple similar channels. In my Astro Radios, I would have one personallity for FRS analog and one for Digital. So with 2 personalities I can tell 28 channels how to behave.
Hope that helps.

So there simply are no zones in the GP380? All 255 channels in one big bank/zone?

Yep, continuous rotary on the top. It is kind of a pain, but the personality thing is pretty neat once you figure it out.

Yes, but pressing a channel number on the keypad followed by the check key takes you directly to any channel.
