XTS2500 Question...

Post by Rayjk110 »

After just purchasing a VHF M2 XTS2500 for a customer of mine, it's been realized that it did not come with a charger. No big problem, I can always order one, however, I've got a few NIB waris chargers here, and was wondering if they were compatible with the XTS2500 battery.

I thought I heard otherwise, but I wasn't sure. Just checking.

Thanks!

What radios do you own?: HT1550's, X9000's, CDM1550's

most of the jedi chargers will work depending on the chemistry.

Aren't they built off of the waris design, tho? I've got a jedi "square" charger "intellicharger" if it fits, but last time I tried the waris radios' batteries would not fit into that kind of jedi charging bay opening.

no, they will not fit properly, and you may end up having the radio get stuck in the charger. i, very vicariously and through a customer of mine found this out the hard way. he ended up widening the groove in the battery by about 1/8", and even then it was a pain to get out.

anyways you will need an ntn1667a or equivalent

Fun fact:

The batteries still have BOTH sets of contacts.

You'll notice on the Waris batteries, there's two sets of contacts - an upper, and a lower set. Waris batteries work fine on the XTS 2500, and you can use them without issue (as far as I can tell). There may be another reason out there to not use them, but I don't know any off hand.

If you peel back the label on the 2500 battery, it will show the second set of contacts, and that'll work on the waris portables.

Again, if the batteries are IS rated, or have other ratings from the factory, it will void any ounce of warranty and safety provided by the battery...

I have our dealerships XTS2500 demo that I use at the FD I work at. The FD runs HT750's and HT1250's I've thrown a waris battery on my XTS a handful of times with no issues. The only thing is, if you put the XTS in a waris charger with a waris battery it won't charge, and you'll get an error light on the charger.

I thought I had heard somewhere that the XTS2500 battery contacts were higher on the battery (the charging contacts, not the radio >< battery contacts), but as long as it can charge without issue it's all good.

the outside charging contacts ARE different.

The ones in the inside of the battery that connect to the radio are the same, and the second set exists under the label of the 2500 series batts.

The batteries are SOMEWHAT interchangeable radio wise but they are not interchangeable on the charger side.

Just to be clear.

The reasoning was to keep the chargers uniform for the XTS Tier... oh yeah and to sell more charger/batteries.

An update...

The VHF XTS2500 came in today, and the battery fits perfectly in my Jedi "Square" charger; no pushing, prying, or otherwise gouging the charger rails.

It's an NTN9875b battery for what that's worth.

Jedis and XTS radios use the same chargers, but good luck getting it to fit in a Waris charger ; )

another thing kinda close to this is that batteries for a 1250/1550 will work on a cp250 and radios of that series if you cut a notch in the bottom tabs to alter the battery to match the indentations on the radio. i've done that to a few cp's that i had so i could use the big 2700mah batteries on them. the only thing is that it won't work with the cp charger with that battery, you have to use a waris charger.

Not quite, I've seen a few "foxtrotted" up XTS 3000s from people putting them into those single pocket Jedi chargers where the hole is about 2mm too narrow for the radio to fit properly :o
