Strange Astro Saber Model #

Post by txshooter »

HO4RDC9PW5AN-UCM

Ok, this is on a Astro Saber 1. I am fully aware of what everything except the last 3 letters are. This is a Factory Tag.

Any suggestions?

What radios do you own?: Progreso soup can with CRT

UCM

I'm no expert but it's probably the latest and greatest
in encryption modules. I did a search for it here and
that would seem to be what it is.

Encryption....

Post by txshooter »

The latest and greatest was not all that exciting if that's what it means.....radio had a DES-XL / DES-OFB module. Nothing too exciting.

The UCM stands for universal crypto module if I remember right. Those modules are flashed for the encryption type. They can be changed (no I dont have the stuff to do it and no one probably does except Motorola). I know in the astro spectra there were a couple internal modifications that needed to be made to make these work in the them, possibly the astro saber too, the UCM means the radio will work with the UCM.

A true expert may post and tell me I am wrong but I have no problem with that since I am taking an educated guess here.

Thanks that makes sense as the module was a newer module.

Thanks

Jason is right...there were a couple of ASpectra's on ebay awhile back that also had the -UCM model numbers (DES-XL/OFB IIRC)
