Bought some new batteries for my dept MT2000's. Got a deal on WPPN4013A. Well they came and have a sticker on box. No ntn7212 chargers (Well a whole bunch of numbers).
My dept tends to leave radios in chargers on the vehicles. I was thinking of using a lamp timer to turn on and off the charger for about 2hrs every night. We have a low call volume so i think this could work. Dont have the money to upgrade to impress and the 7212 bases fit perfectly on a shelf in the cab.
Can we charge this battery with that charger? Ive seen references to the charger mod to lower the trickle rate.

Intellicharger2's support NiMH and NiCAD batteries. That is the only reason why they are called intellichargers since they did both chemistries (this wasn't an early impress style charger if you were thinking that).
If the NTN7212 Charger is the standard "cup" charger that has a wall wart and it does not specifically say Intellicharger2 on it, your charger will not properly charge those batteries. If it is the round cup which also supports saber batteries, that will charge all 3 types (I think it's a NTN8813 anyway).
I strongly recommend you do not modify the charger beyond how it is configured from the factory. If someone comes along and drops in one of your old NiCAD's, you run the risk of not having the battery charged when needed, or even starting a fire.
They money spent on the right equipment is always cheaper than cleaning up the mess after you blow something up
.
I understand your options are limited, but when it comes to making sure that your officers/firefighters/emt's life is on the line, you bet your ass I'd want to make sure they had the right equipment, charged, and ready for action.
