I needed to be able to quickly monitor local FD on my GP300, but I couldn't find the antenna, so I threw on the first one I saw, which happened to be the female SMA from an ASTRO Saber. Somewhat to my surprise, it works as well on receive as the MX antenna that's supposed to be on it.
So I'm just curious--can I transmit into this with the same results, or will it not work due to the fact that the GP300 doesn't have a center pin?

I'm surprised that you managed to get the antenna on the radio, as the threads are different.. you probably stripped the threads in the process.

It fits perfectly, no thread issues. It doesn't have to turn that far before it's 'tight,' maybe that's the issue. But it looks like it goes on all the way. (And just for the record, I'm aware that transmitting into an open is a bad idea... I'm just not that familiar with the different types of antennas, so I wondered if the 'extra' center pin on the AS antenna mattered on the GP300...)
Thanks for your help, guys.
