Went through all the hoops to get an MOL account to get Saber RSS only to find out after the fact that Motorola will no longer be selling or supporting it effective immediately. That means that while it's illegal to buy it from anyone besides Motorola - Motorola no longer sells it - so...?? Classic Catch-22.

I've worked with Motorola since the earliest days of celphones before I got out of the industry, and always found it somewhat ironic that the best gear is married to just about the most frustrating corporate machinery known to man or beast.

Anyway, FYI for all those maintaining those helpful Saber pages pointing people to Moto as the only legal option for the RSS, because now that's not an option.

Support for Saber was stopped on 12/31/2005. All parts as of that date were set to NLA once stock was depleted. When CTDI took final control of the parts department, most of the remaining parts were scrapped.

Getting parts from Big M is becoming a BIG probem, even if it is out of production and STILL being supported, we can't seem to get parts. Anyone tried to buy Volume Knobs for the XTS3000 lately, Big M is between vendors and cannot supply.

Who or what is CTDI?

I've been out of the loop for a while.

I know a guy who just bought a THOUSAND Saber volume knobs and inserts. He sells them in sets for a nice markup. He found the individual part numbers for the knobs and the inserts, and buys them individually, which means they cost a lot less than the RPX kit.

Maybe he's the reason those parts are NLA? Well, if so, he owns the market now.

I wonder if another knob maker could produce the knobs and inserts in suitable quantities for a fair price?

They're a big electronics repair company. Try http://www.ctdi.com. In addition to Motorola my company uses them for repair also. From my experience, as we deal with a different equipment vendor, they haven't been that bad. Pretty good but once and a while repaired parts fail a week or so later. The majority are rectifiers though.
