Astro Spectra back lighting qestion

Post by matt_tjaden »

Hi Everyone,
I have a VHF W5 and was wondering if there is a setting to keep the back lighting on on high dim. The W7 motorcycle head I was using would do this and my 800 Astro Spectra with a W9 head dose also.

What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

The "newer" analog spectras would allow this. From my experience, the ASTRO Spectra line did not allow this, except for the W9 head. The other heads could be programmed to remember the last dim state, but you couldn't have the display on high with the backlight on (which would work great for my application).

So in short, Spectra's -> Yes. Astro Spectra -> No. A9/C9/W9 -> Always on.

There is a solder 0 ohm jumper that has to be moved on the control head board. If memory serves me right J16 to J17 or vice versa.
