Shorting Accy Pins MTS2000

Post by gatekeep »

Heres the story, I managed to destroy the accy connector cover on my MTS (no other damage thank god), what bad things could occur from leaving the pins uncovered (i.e. shorting, etc)?

Static discharge can mess with the radios programming, shorting as you mentioned. Even moisture accross the pins can do funny things.

How about destroying the radio, I mean is it possible?

Probably not, unless you manage to somehow apply significant voltage to the pins, or short certain pins out.

accessory connector

This is a item that most fleet radios tend to loose very quickly. In litrely thouands of radios I have seen just a couple problems and all but one of these were intentional damage caused by the end user.

But go ahead and buy another one. They are cheap and readily available.

Yeah,

especially in end users that intermittently use shoulder mikes, you see a lot of radios with the "cover delete" option.

I haven't heard of any anecdotal evidence that leaving the cover off is bad, but if you can find a cover, I personally would use it.
