XTS 5000 FPP

Post by Einstein »

I have a XTS 5000 800 Mhz FPP radio that won't allow me in the Zone Assignment Field to change the personality from a conventional to a trunking. I can set up the trunking sytem and personality fields but it wont let me assign them to a zone. Looking for some answers.
Flashcode 5A1008-001500-1
Is this related to having both a Q52 and Q53 in the radio?

Thanks

I have an XTS5000 with a similar flash (Q52, Q53 and H38) and have never encountered that problem. Did you try just deleting that channel and re-entering the data? The default value for that field should be 'conv'.

It does not seem that you can delete anything in the Zone field other than change the conventional freq's. and channel name.

Are the zones protected in any way? Sounds like a simple CPS programming thingy. I'd say that your just missing something when you find it, you go "doh!".

If you want to send me the codeplug, I'll take a look for you.

Protected Zone

(Zone Channel Assignment, Protection)

Causes the current zone to be protected against unauthorized FPP (Front Panel Programming) and/or Zone Cloning. That is, this Protected Zone feature causes the radio-user to be prompted (by the radio) for the radio’s Protected Zone Password when attempting to ‘Front Panel Program’ or ‘Clone’ for the current zone.

Radio-user access to this feature must be enabled with the CPS defined “FPP” Convention menu item selection. “FPP” will not appear in the Help for Conventional Menu Items selections.

The radio is model/option capable.

Maybe this helps.

No password need to change freqs through front display.
No check marks in the zone protection fields anywhere.
No passwords in the passwords field.
Nothing to indicate that the radio is password protected other than problems in the Zone channel assignment field. When you go to change the conv field to trk even with a trunking system and personality present, you get the little eyeglasses on the screen over that particular field.

Stumped so far.

Sorry i could not help  I opened a few templates and tried everything to recreate that problem(no system keys, no advanced sys keys , ect.) but could always change the Personality type from Trk to Cnv. Even opened up a default template with no luck. Would love to see what fixes your problem.

Ok, I can drop and drag from this radio to another and in the receiving radio I can access the conv and trk personality features with no problem. Then when reviewing the features in the radio, I think the light bulb came on with the problem, the host/dsp in the radio is R02.20.00. Very very old host/dsp for having smartzone trunking and the other features that are in this radio. The radio is probably not seeing the trunking feature at all that is why it only sees the conv. pers. and will not let you change that feature. Why with this code plug they did not ungrade the host/dsp is beyond me. Hopefully this answers the dilemma and if anyone has a second opinion please feel free .

The FPP option is not compatible with the trunking option. The radio should not be flashed with both at the same time.

Q52 and H38 can work in the same radio without any problems.. You can't FPP any trunking info, so the two options pretty much operate seperate of one another.

Where I have seen problems in the past is when you have Q52 and Q53. These two options are not meant to be in the radio together at the same time.. The radio is meant to have one or the other.

I believe the Q52/Q53 in the same radio has come up before in previous posts, along with an explanation of some of the problems the two options together can cause.

Stupidity creates job security!

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

well keep in mind that the "official" motorola FPP radios are VHF, FPP non trunked.

they wont even talk to you about anything else... our MSS tried to get a UHF and no dice..

we could get VHF, non trunked FCC approved FPP..

the point is that just like a nick whore flash, sure some options may play well together, but others are playing with others that arent supposed to be there.

FCC approved FPP

I know why it's VHF only, but does anybody know where in the CFR they made the change to allow fpp?

The FCC approved one works the same way as the JT1000 did, so no change was needed.

Two flavors....

FCC approved (restricted access)
USGOVT (unrestriced access -- no key needed)

Note that Q52 radios are not type accepted.

The radio has been updated with the current flash with no change in the problem. Possibly it is because Q52 and Q53 are in the same radio?? Still researching.

Einstien did you ever figure this out? I am having the same problem. My radio has H38, Q806, Q173, Q361 H14, and Q53. All put in by the depot. I can add all the trunking stuff and when I go to zone channel assignment I can't change the personality type.. Frustrating..
