Battery Gauge and RSSI on XTS3.5k

i've noticed that on the xts3.5k the screen has the ability to show RSSI and Battery strength, however, can't find an option to turn these on?

Its in the menu items selection for batt, the rssi is with a Button setting using the Site Displ/Srch on the trucking side. When button pushed will show rssi value and if you hold will force switch the radio to another site, so be careful.

As far as I know the 3500 doesn't do trunking, so it's probably just a carry-over from the 3000 display, and I've never dealt with the 3500 rss, so I'm not positive either way about the battery indicator.

i will be sitting down at my rss tomorrow, and let u know for sure. i assume the batt menu item would be conventional or trunking.

the rssi, however, i assume will NOT work on conventional channels. although, if i wanted a RSSI i could have just purchased an ht-1550xls.. lol..

The 3500 will display RSSI on trunking systems only. Doesn't work on conventional.

There's an icon in the top left that represents a battery but the only use it has is to indicate a low battery. I'm assuming this is what you're talking about?

the rssi seems to be a fleeting idea...

the battery icon, yes, in the upper left corner of the screen... it seems to have a multi-segmented display... which would seem to indicate it can display battery state... however, i've been fooled by less...

If you were hoping it would indicate battery state like the Impres feature on the newer models then you're SOL.

It's either off for a full battery or flashing for a low battery.

The RSSI feature is the same as in all the other radios. It just indicates the strength of the current trunking site.

Electrically, that battery icon is a single segment.
