Centacom Software

Post by wb4bli »

First of all I am not trying to get illegal software. I am exausting every legal avenue I possibly can to get the right stuff to program my CCII. Every place i turn I can't seem to find anyone who knows anything. I am willing to purchase the software if I can find it. I have tried several Moto shops with no luck. I am also trying to figure out whether or not I have to program the OP direct to change the tones and buttons or the OMI in the CEB. Some of my buttons are disabled and I want to re-enable them. The Moto shops also advised Moto will not even support this at all now. So.... What can I do?

As you have found out, CCII systems are complex to the point that even asking questions here can be somewhat fruitless. Check out the dates on some of your proms...I'm willing to bet they are circa 1985 or older. This is another big hurdle to overcome...obsolesence. The few people that did much work with these systems are hard to come by. I do believe XMO has stated in one of your past threads that the programming is done to a PROM on the OMI card, along with RSS part numbers & rough pricing. In this same thread KE9GK gave the best advice...get the applicable manuals if you ever hope to figure things out.

Assembling a complete "as is" system such as you obtained is do-able, as you have done. Getting changes made on a firmware level...that was difficult to accomplish even 20 years ago with Motorola's help!

Todd hit the nail on the head.

This sort of forum is simply not a viable method for training on CCII from the ground up. It is an exceptionally complex product.

Full time Motorola factory direct sales people were not even allowed to write an order for a console system. Orders required the participation of a console specialist or a System Engineer and were processed through a special program called CDA - Console Design Advisor.

There aren't many shops that are good at CCII because Motorola generally preferred to include Project Management with every sale and although the local shop installed the hardware, much of the programming was done by factory trained personnel - Console Facilitators, FTR's, or ST's.

A resaonably complete CCII library including catalog pages, ordering guides, programming and hardware manuals, sales, installation and service training manuals, etc. ocupies several FEET of shelf space.

And to answer your question, yes, the function of every single button, every LED, etc. is defined in the programming software.

Since the CCII+ RSS is still available from Motorla parts - and comes with a manual - it is probably more practical to focus on putting together a 68000 TOMI based system rather than a 6809 based system.

Yes, I can see this is going to be a hard task. I am truly sorry for bugging everyone with this. What does it take to go to the TOMI based system to make mine a CCII+? Do I still get to keep my OPs? Is all I need is the right cards?
