MTS2000 Programming noises

Whenever I read or write my MTS2000, using CPS 2.00.01, the radio acts like you are holding the monitor button down and says "PROGRAMMING" on the screen like normal.
Sometimes, the radio will beep continuously and say "SERVICE" on the display.

Any ideas why this might be happening?

Im using a cheap crappy cable but it does the same thing with the OEM stuff at the shop.

The radio programs fine, the other MTS i had did not make these noises.

This has 6.83 firmware I think.

thanks

The 800Mhz one I had never did that.

The UHF one I can't get a codeplug for does the exact same thing. It doesn't seem to affect programming, so I usually lay it face down on something soft so the static doesn't annoy me.

The static you're hearing is probably because as with a lot of other Moto radios, the unit is put into CSQ on one of the test channels whilst programming (newer radios show CSQ 1 meaning CSQ on the 1st test channel), and if there's noise on that frequency (not uncommon with local EM sources like computers, flourescent lights, etc).

You could try pulling the antenna I suppose, see if that helps. Otherwise, turn the volume as far down as you can and put up with it.

I don't really know why, but some Jedi radios will make the constant tone while programming. It's not a fault of any sort...it may be firmware level dependant, I don't know. The tone blasts out at whatever level the volume control is set at, and then can't be changed. My best advice is to make sure the volume is at it's lowest level before hitting the 'write' button in RSS/CPS.

Yea i usually turn the volume down all the way when programming it, programming the MTS takes much longer than the HT1000, i dont mind the beeping but i cannot stand the squelch if the volume is higher.

Its not interference, its like the radio turns the squelch all the way down so it sounds like you are holding the monitor button down. If the voulme is all the way down its not that bad.

Thats what I was thinking, firmware, my model one that did not make the noise(same programming setup) was 6.41, this is 6.83.

Anyone have any idea why it would say "service" sometimes and "programming" most of the time?
