Hi batlabers,
I do not have anymore information about this, a buddy of mine sent it to me. I was just wondering if anyone had more information on this.

"Rome Ga. Representatives from Norfolk Southern told police Monday about $2,000 in equipment was stolen during the weekend, reports stated. According to Rome police reports: Charles Michael Byars of Rockmart said between 4:30 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Monday, a rail car located near Walnut Avenue was broken into and a Motorola Spectra Base radio valued at $2,000 taken, along with a case of marking spray paint."

Keep an eye on ebay is all I can say.

RR Spectras are pretty much useless outside of a railroad environment, so it will likely pop up eventually.

But if it was a base radio, what are the chances that it is a clean cab radio, rather than a consollette or a mobile with a power supply?

If it was mounted in a Rail Car or Locomotive it was more than likely a Clean Cab unit.

I'd say it was just a plain old spectra, but I would say that the report submitted is too vague. If it was a business car, it could be a RR Spectra. However, you don't normally find marking paint in a business car.

I'd say it was a Hy-Rail vehicle or a MOW car or cab.

Again, it could be anything.

99% of all railroad owned radios are engraved with not only the serial nunmber but also the id number the railroad gives the unit.

Im betting its some Crackheads or Mope teens who broke in and took what they thought had some cash value. Spray paint and a fancy CB radio. Im sure the paint is on the first rail car and viaduct and the radio is in a Pond or Dumpster somewhere.
