Hi, I am looking into putting up a single site, but would like something expandable to two sites in the near future with possibly more down the road. Does anyone have any suggestions on what kind of equipment to go with. I have looked at zetron's panels and
http://www.fyldemicro.com/ Also some decent radios for bussiness and industrial users.
Thank you,
Robert

For mobile radios, feature-wise, go Tait. TM8255 is a fantastic mobile radio, and there's a 50W version intended for the US market.
Tait are worth a look for the infrastructure too, but I can't offer any first hand opinions of that side of things.

Yes I have messed with tait products a bit and they are quite impressive. That was what I was leaning towards, I was just curious of someone was going to chime in with someone that I have never heard of.

Most of the largest MPT1327 systems in the world are Nokia Actionet systems. I don't think they're still in the radio business though, especially in North America.
What band do you have in mind? Tait have FCC type accepted 220MHz gear, so that might be worth looking at too (might be easier to get frequencies on that band than VHF and UHF.)

ya I was thinking more along the lines of vhf high band.

Is MPT even type accepted in the states?
I think you may possibly have a larger issue at hand.
It is a very popular trunking standard in latin america and overseas, but its generally not used here much.
Anyone?

I'm not sure if it's still running but Douglas County, Kansas (City of Lawrence) had or has a 220 Mhz MPT1327 system.

It is type accepted, but Motorola's questionable business practices have been quite successful in keeping a higher featured and cheaper system out of the USA for the most part. Tait has type accepted gear on VHF, 220 and UHF.

What's wrong with them trying to make more money by screwing their customers? They do it on mobiles, portables, why not full systems?

go to Fylde instead of Zetron. Best quality and long experience with MPT1327. If you have problem superb support. As the repeaters MTR2000. Radios are not a issue, in my opinion best are Motorola GM6xx/GP6xx series (European Models), but Tait is also ok.

European radios don't have FCC type approval or local support, so I doubt they'd cut it in the USA.

Ive got Fylde controllers (which dont have to be type accepted because they are not a tx'er) and Tait 220Mhz MPT portable and mobile radios here. Not sure what to think as far as operation goes. We have an MPT1327 system attached to sitecast on the confernce server right now in Newport Beach California and the call setup is wierd to me Push the ptt once let go. it lets you know you have an open repeater and proceed to talk, then you stop and a timeout tone goes off and it goes back to scan/channel open. It does work/sound good though. I gues anything sounds good f you are near the repeater/base station and go through the internet. Call setup to me is not rapid enough. I like it though don't get me wrong.

Slow call setup is an inherent aspect of 1327, although it varies with different controllers .TaitNet controllers can set up a single site call in about 500ms, not much worse than Motorola, and a multisite call in 1.5s, whereas a lot of other controllers aren't as quick.

You can look at KIRISUN as they have a full backbone ÏP based system .
There are lots of companies(Simoco - that have been through the MPT1327 system design , which is still one of the cheapest systems to get going and certainly reliable.
The biggest downfall I have seen is the failiure to establish a "perfected "group calling facility -groups are enabled but it becomes cumbersome when resources are not availible at sites and one can wait for long periods of time .(one can cheat the system if one knows what to do in order to improve the speed of group calls.)
The voting from the system is a definate added bonus and the T2000 's Taits and T3040's work very well.
Frequency timesharing is also written into the spec if frequencies are scarce .

Yep. The one real drawback of MPT1327, in my eyes, is the lack of SmartZone-esqe group affiliation.

I believe Simoco SRM9000 radios support "vote now" as of a fairly recent firmware release.

All nored on Simoco.
I was involved in one of the largest MPT1327 system in the world at that time .
We had a number of makes and then at that time the "ACT NOW vOTE BROADCAST message was not being used.
All the models and makes dragged site to the point of being under the one at our radio workshop and the radio had not migrated due to the signal still being good from the adjacent site.
After much persuation , the network manager listenned to my request and we implimented the""ACT NOW V BROADCAST "on the control channels and they have never looked back .
Since leaving that company all the other seem to have followed suite although the mobiles still being used are not up to scratch with voting yet.(On the radio side I only used ACT NOW VOTE Bcast and disabled all the other useless stuff referring to L1 /2 levels.
I found that the TAIT MPT1327 voting made that radio far superior than others .Our sites voted every 15 or so seconds which guarenteed the optimum channel allocation when a call was to be made.We used neighbor lists just as in the GSM field I am in and each CC ID would have a different neighbor list allocation .
