HI wise men!
I buyed a spectra consolette in very bad condition. I repaired the control head and and some plastic parts in the case.
Now I have some problems to understain various settings. Before to receive funny answers....here in Italy this model is unknow, local dialers don't know this model so I'm forced to make all with my hands.
First question: when I connect the power cable (AC or DC) the axial fan start and work also with the radio turned off...is right?...or?
- The model is L99ZX+336L , ID L53KXM7174AM, I not was able to take info in the breakdown info someone can help me to identify this model..is a VHF, I'm sure, but I not have other notices.
- In the board under the radio there is a Dip switch numbered 1-8 I try various position and I understain that the first turn on the radio when the power cable is connected.....and the other seven?
- The last question (for the moment) is: can I reprogram the radio with a normal rss for spectra or I need a specific rss for this consolette? I read that I can reprogramm it by the connector 3 in the rear of the consolette..is the same if I make this by the 15 pin accessory port on the radio or the connector 3 give me other setting?
My consolette is not like the consolette show in the photo gallery, not have display and not have the black switch near at display. Inside the mic connector of the radio body is not connected as the consolette show in the photo gallery, but closed....anyway via the control heah the mic work

OK... What you have there is a mid-power (about 50 watts) VHF radio. It will likely cover the entire 2m amateur band with no mods required.

On your power: There should be an existing two-wire DC cable that comes from the internal power supply, and plugs straight onto the back of the radio.

Yes, the axial fan runs any time that AC line power is present.

You would do very well to order a copy of Motorola manual #68-81081E65. This manual covers the Spectra Consolette in gruesome detail, including the DIP switches.

I'm going to assume that the DIP switch you're referring to is S101. That being the case, here's a breakdown of the settings (from the manual):

1 ON = Spectra Control Head power button DISABLED (Default)
1 OFF = Control head power button ENABLED.

2 ON = Battery revert option NOT present (Default)
2 OFF = Battery option present.

3 ON = EMERGENCY signal active high (Default)
3 OFF = EMERGENCY signal active low

Switches 4 and 5 together interact to set the impedance for the remote control line. It is best to leave them with 4 on and 5 off. This is the default, and it sets the line impedance at 600 Ohms.

6 ON = Local desk mic NOT present
6 OFF = Local mic PRESENT (Default)

7 ON = Digital Remote Control option PRESENT
7 OFF = Digital Remote option ABSENT (Default)

Switch 8 is not used, and should be left in whatever position you found it in.

Programming the radio is accomplished with normal Spectra RSS and the LOW-POWER programming cable plugged DIRECTLY INTO THE BACK OF THE RADIO.

Do NOT attempt to connect a programming cable to either of the D-Sub 25's on the back of the unit! Unless you know exactly what you're doing, and you have the manual handy, you can easily damage your RIB, the radio, or both.
