Relm RM-800?? Does MDC-1200?
First off, I'm a volunteer, I carry a portable, if my mobile gives out it's no problem.
That being said, I was looking around online and came by the Relm/BK RM-800. It's a tiny little mobile that claims:
2-tone Decode AND Encode
MDC-1200 Encode AND decode
PC programming
http://www.relm.com/RM_800_mobile_radios.asp
Has anyone seen/used one or heard anything about it? I'm getting a new truck, pulled the aged Spectra out of my old one, and am thinking of replacing it. Any thoughts? I'd love something that does MDC-1200, and 2-tone decode would be great too (great for those times when I don't want to listen to the radio but still need to get the tones).
Any comments? Does anyone know a *reputable* dealer who sells them?

Realm BK RM-800 is same as the HYT variant TM-800.I played with a few here in VHF and UHF recently and got their version of MDC1200 to work just fine with Motorola encode/decode capable mobiles and handhelds. The HYT TC-700 portable also did the HDC1200 (MDC1200) just fine.Stun/Kill/Revive,Unit ID,Remote Control and Select Call ( individual call ).I learned a little Chinese too, programmed channel annunciator for Chinese language.
HYT actualy makes some of the Relm BK stuff.RP3600 ( sp?),RM600,RM800,RP3000 to name a few.
And the prices are decent.Recently swapped a Gp300/P1225 radio customer from GP300 into TC-700 and the radios hold up better than thier new Icom and BPR40 ( argh!) are.Reprogrammed all portables with unit ID Encode so the base and managers know who is chatting on channels and who is fooling around.

Thanks for the reply.
I put out emails to three of the closest Relm dealers, and spoke with one of them, but never got any followups on the programming manuals, etc. or how the radios actually worked. So I'm a bit hesitant to call them. When I spoke with Motorola or Tyco dealers, they hounded me for years...

i'm not up on realm or how old that radio is but the patent on mdc is up and all of the other brands are jumping on and adding mdc to their radios now.

and if I was a manufacturer I know I would also add MDC1200 if I could.Sure beats having to buy aftermarket option board later on or seperately.HLA wrote:i'm not up on realm or how old that radio is but the patent on mdc is up and all of the other brands are jumping on and adding mdc to their radios now.
The Relm and HYT mobile RM/TM800 radio actually do a 2400 baud rate modulation feature called HDC2400.Have not played with it though.I see that Icom jumped onto the "Now With MDC1200" bandwagon .Not so much Vertex.I have not seen any Kenwoods with it here lately.
