does my spectra do 12.5kHz narrowband?

Need to know if I can use this radio on narrowband. I can get to read the radio tomorrow if that is the only way.
can anyone tell from that?

if its an ASTRO Spectra, then yes, if its a conventional spectra, then no

yes sorry, analog (non astro) spectras were not designed for 12.5khz.. sorry, thats why i sold mine and sold my soul (purchased a CDM1550)...

And not all Astro spectras are. Assume a VHF Astro Spectra is narrowband only if tagged as such.

Narrowband astro spectra's spectras will have "2.5" printed on the tag.

Hi Pj,
I know it's not wise to contradict a moderator, but here goes...
The earlier Astro Spectras (without the "2.5 kHz" on the label) will operate with narrowband transmission and reception - they just won't do it on 2.5 kHz channel steps, which are required for many (but not all) new VHF FCC narrowband assignments. Federal users (whose channels are on 12.5 kHz increments) can easily use the earlier Astro Spectras using narrowband emission.

Hartley above is correct. My dept has the older version Astro Spectras that won't do the 2.5 khz step. (purchased mid 1990's)

Hartley is indeed correct. Every ASTRO Spectra I've ever seen is capable of 2.5KHz deviation in a 12.5 channel. However, only the ones tagged "2.5" (or, possibly not tagged but with an upgraded RF deck) have an oscillator of sufficient stability to tune the 2.5KHz splinter channels.
Any ASTRO Spectra should work fine with 2.5KHz deviation at, for instance, 155.4600. Only the "2.5" tagged ASTRO Spectras will work at 155.4675.
